Transnet SOC Limited will this Saturday 01 December 2018 host the Annual National Sports Tournament in Pretoria Tshwane. This prestigious annual sporting event, whose ethos Unearthing, Developing and Showcasing Young Sporting Talent, started in 2002 and today sees over 22 000 learners participating in inter‐house competitions during the year, will culminate in a three-day-long National Tournament.

This year over 900 participants will be uniting for the opening ceremony at the Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sport School in Laudium Tshwane on Saturday 01 December 2018.

Transnet’s GM for CSI Mr Musa Mkhwanazi, Head of CSI Ms Cynthia Mgijima and Gauteng Education MEC, Mr Panyaza Lesufi, will all be attending the opening ceremony and showing their support for these rising sports stars of the Transnet National Sport Tournament.

Other dignitaries include former Bafana Bafana midfielder and forward Mr Fani Madida, former South African midfielder Mr Linda Buthelezi and former SAFA Director of Coaching Education and National Development Team Head Coach Mr Simon Ngomane, who will be scouting for talent during the sporting event. The three soccer legends joined Transnet Foundation as Sports Managers to drive Sport Development Programme.

Selected participants will get an opportunity to take part in the Transnet Sport School of Excellence trials taking place 4 days after the tournament. This year Transnet is committed to not only showcasing young talent but also inspiring the nation’s future sporting legends. This year Transnet is proud to host Commonwealth Games triple jump champion and award winner African athlete, Mr Khotso Mokoena, as Guest Speaker. The extraordinary and
enigmatic Comrades Marathon runner, Ms Likhabiso Kaibe, will be the Master of Ceremonies at this auspicious event.

Although South Africa is rich in sporting talent, many of the country’s talented gems are hidden. Transnet is dedicated to unearthing, developing and showcasing the nation’s future sport ambassadors. The Transnet National Sports Tournament is aimed at forming holistically run sports leagues for boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 19. This initiative undertaken by the Transnet Foundation intends to nurture, and develop our future sporting stars in female and male soccer, chess and athletics and netball.

This year’s event begins at 17h00 on the 01 December 2018 with an Olympic sized opening ceremony including a procession, traditional dancers, live bands and a fireworks display. Competitors, sports scouts, sport officials, media and dignitaries will spend the next two days witnessing up‐and‐coming sports talent in all the various disciplines.

Please join us as we celebrate our young sporting heroes and future champions as we showcase the sustainable impact of this Transnet National Sports Tournament.
