The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially announced that tickets for the eagerly awaited Nedbank Cup final between Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will go on sale on Monday, 5 May. The final will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 10 May.

Tickets will be available from 10am at Open Tickets outlets nationwide, including Shoprite and Checkers stores. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.opentickets.co.za. General access tickets are priced at R150 each, with a limit of four tickets per person. Hospitality packages will also be released on the same day. For further enquiries, the public can contact 082 805 3150 or email booking@sail.co.za.

Tightened Security Measures

In preparation for the country’s biggest football match, the PSL has introduced strict security measures to curb the sale and circulation of counterfeit tickets. The league urges supporters to buy tickets only through official platforms, warning that tickets purchased from unauthorised sources will be invalid and will not grant entry into the stadium.

This move follows the disorder experienced during a previous Soweto Derby, where more than 100,000 fans were present at the venue. Over 10,000 of those tickets were purchased illegally, overwhelming security teams and event organisers. Determined to avoid a repeat of such chaos, the PSL is committed to ensuring a smooth, safe and well-controlled final.

Back-to-Back Derbies Set the Stage for a Season-Defining Climax

Before the Nedbank Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will lock horns this weekend in a crucial league encounter at the FNB Stadium. Both clubs are under pressure to secure a victory, with significant implications for the remainder of their campaigns.

Orlando Pirates, still in pursuit of the DStv Premiership title, are nine points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns but have two games in hand. A win on Saturday could reignite their title ambitions and provide a boost for head coach Jose Riveiro, who is expected to depart at the end of the season. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers have enjoyed back-to-back cup doubles and could be on course to add a league title to their trophy cabinet for the first time since 2012.

The team will also be looking to bounce back after failing to reach the CAF Champions League final. A derby win would go a long way in restoring morale and giving their supporters something to celebrate.

Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, are desperate for results. Under the leadership of coach Nasreddine Nabi, the club hoped for a turnaround following a disappointing campaign last season. However, improvement has been minimal, and with only three matches remaining, time is running out to rescue their season. The absence of creative midfielder Wandile Duba, who is suspended for this weekend’s match due to a fourth yellow card, adds further strain to the squad.

More Than Just Bragging Rights at Stake

This weekend’s derby is about more than pride. It could determine who enters the Nedbank Cup final with the upper hand. Both clubs are fighting for different goals, and a win could shift the momentum at a critical point in the season.

As the FNB Stadium prepares to host another heated chapter in this fierce rivalry, fans can expect high drama, intensity and passion. The outcome will undoubtedly influence not only the Cup final but also the overall trajectory of both teams.

With silverware, pride and season-defining moments hanging in the balance, the stage is set for two thrilling weekends of South African football.
