The telecoms provider cited rising operational expenses and ongoing economic challenges in South Africa as the main drivers behind the price hikes.

Factors such as inflation, increased energy costs, and a weakened exchange rate have raised the cost of delivering services, particularly in infrastructure-intensive sectors like telecommunications.

To continue investing in infrastructure, technology, and service improvements, Telkom stated that the price adjustments are necessary for sustaining operations and ensuring long-term service quality.

The new pricing structure includes a 12% increase for legacy fixed voice tariffs, while current fixed voice and SMB PABX products will see a 6% rise.

DSL services for both consumer and business customers are also set to go up by 12%, and fibre tariffs will increase by an average of 6%.

While acknowledging the potential impact on customers, Telkom assured that it had made efforts to keep the increases as minimal as possible.

The company reiterated its commitment to delivering reliable connectivity and continuously improving the customer experience through ongoing investments across its network.
