VICTORIA — Seychelles President Patrick Herminie has been admitted to hospital for observation, but State House has not disclosed the medical reason for his admission. In a statement issued on 21 October, the presidency said his condition was stable and further tests were being conducted at Seychelles Hospital.

The announcement confirmed that Herminie was receiving care in his home country. It did not explain the circumstances behind that arrangement or suggest that overseas treatment had been considered. Healthcare professionals were providing appropriate care, State House said, conveying the president’s thanks for the public’s thoughts and prayers.

His hospitalisation follows heavy rains that caused flooding, landslides and fallen trees across several districts. In a message dated 20 October, Herminie acknowledged serious damage to homes, roads and other property, placing his admission against the backdrop of a national recovery effort.

The medical statement gave no expected discharge date or details of any changes to presidential duties. State House asked the public to rely on its official communications for accurate information, leaving further clarification of his condition and recovery timetable outstanding.
