A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours has been issued for several provinces, including Gauteng and the North West, on Tuesday.
The South African Weather Service cautioned that the stormy conditions will be accompanied by intense lightning, small hail, and strong winds across the south-western areas of the North West, the eastern and northern Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Mpumalanga Highveld and escarpment regions, as well as the south-western parts of Limpopo.
While much of the country braces for storms, extreme heat continues to grip the Northern Cape, the western Free State, and parts of the Western Cape. Authorities have issued an extremely high fire danger alert for the West Coast district and the Beaufort West municipal area.
Cooler Weather Expected Midweek
Forecasters anticipate partly cloudy to cool conditions across sections of the country on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the central and eastern regions, while the west is set to remain hot.
