JOHANNESBURG – The SABC said Pastor Sthembiso Zondo is not fired from Ukhozi FM, but rather he has been taken off the schedule until further notice.
This follows reports that the pastor was fired following the leak of his naked video.
The pastor is a presenter of a weekly motivational show on Durban-based national radio station Ukhozi FM.
A video of Zondo walking around naked in his living room went viral on social media last week.
Some social media users blamed the woman who allegedly released the video for public viewing, while others demanded an explanation from Zondo.
Zondo apologised to the SABC and his congregation in Durban on Sunday.
On Monday, SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, released a statement saying Zondo was being unscheduled after getting caught in a “compromising position”.
He said, “The decision was taken following careful consideration, as to the negative impact this situation would have on the credibility of the said programme the pastor was contributing to, as it deals with morality issues.”
Kganyago told eNCA that the SABC cannot fire Zondo as he is a “freelancer” and claims that he had been fired were not true.
He said that there was a possibility Zondo would be back on air following an investigation into the matter.
