Polokwane, Limpopo — Limpopo police early this week arrested 30-year-old musician Shebeshxt (real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke) who is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court facing two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident near Polokwane.
The arrest came after a confrontation on Sunday, October 19, along Witklip Street in the Ladanna area of Polokwane. According to provincial police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, Chauke allegedly opened fire at another motorist after a dispute, seriously injuring a 34-year-old man who was rushed to hospital.
Detectives with the provincial investigation unit took over the case from the local station at Westernburg SAPS following the shooting. A warrant was secured and executed on Tuesday morning in Bendor, an up-market suburb of Polokwane, where Chauke was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation. During that operation authorities also confiscated the musician’s vehicles for forensic examination.
The incident underscores concerns around road-rage violence and firearms in South Africa, especially as public figures and entertainers become embroiled in criminal cases. The province’s policing leadership has emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to such actions, pledging full investigation and swift legal action.
Chauke, who has been active in the Limpopo music scene and popularly known as Shebeshxt, now faces court proceedings as the community watches closely. His legal team is expected to appear in court for the first time this week and will likely apply for bail, while the prosecution prepares to present the state’s case. The victim remains in hospital under treatment for serious injuries.
