Real Madrid verified the signing on Monday via a social media announcement.
The Spanish and European champions said, “Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid C F have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
Not long after the club statement, Mbappe posted pictures of himself as a child wearing a Real Madrid uniform and seeing Cristiano Ronaldo on social media.
“A realization of a dream,” he wrote. I’m overjoyed and honored to have joined the @realmadrid club of my dreams.
“Nobody can comprehend my current level of excitement. Madridistas, I can’t wait to meet you. I appreciate all of your amazing support. Hey Madrid!
On May 10, the 25-year-old French national team captain revealed in a video that he was leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on the social networking platform X.
After his PSG contract expires on June 30, Mbappe will go to Real Madrid in July. However, the striker will first be unveiled before he joins the France team for the European Championship in Germany.
Mbappe joins a highly talented team in Madrid that includes five-time Champions League champion Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, two favorites for the Ballon d’Or. The team is coached by Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
Even though Mbappe frequently completed domestic doubles and trebles while winning multiple trophies at PSG, the Champions League is still the one big award missing from his impressive résumé.
After seven years at PSG, where he won four French Cups, six Ligue 1 crowns, and ended his tenure in the nation’s capital as the team’s all-time best scorer with 256 goals, Mbappe is leaving the team.
When he announced in a letter last year that he would not be choosing to exercise his option for a one-year extension when his contract expires in June, the 2018 World Cup winner startled PSG.
Following a dispute with the club about the letter, Mbappe was dropped from the first team before being added back.
PSG was unable to recover any of the 180 million euro ($196 million) transfer fee they paid to since Monaco in 2017 for Mbappe, since they let him finish out the last year of his contract.
Following the completion of the trade, Mbappe surpassed his former PSG teammate Neymar to become the second-most expensive player of all time.
Mbappe had previously been courted by Real Madrid, but the Spanish team’s bid to sign him was turned down, and in May 2022, the player inked a contract extension with PSG.
Now that Mbappe has joined the team, they can focus on maintaining their supremacy in La Liga, where they won the championship by a 10-point margin last season with only one loss and an undefeated record in the Champions League.
