PRETORIA – President Cyril Ramaphosa has offered justification for the size of his cabinet.
President Ramaphosa has stated that the size of government should be determined based on the country’s needs, rather than through a simple head count, and in 2019, the number of ministries decreased from 34 to 28.
Consequently, the executive establishment has been augmented by two, bringing the total to 30 Ministers.
The President has stated that the new Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will stay in office until the energy crisis is resolved and that the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Ministry is essential to ensure proper execution; however, the Government has been criticised for the amount of personnel in the cabinet and the numerous Deputy Ministers.
