President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed a high-level review panel to assess the mandate, capacity and organisational integrity of the State Security Agency.
The ten-member panel is expected to conclude its work within three months.
This comes as efforts are underway to ensure the country has a responsible Intelligence department with the mandate in line with the constitution.
The panel, which is expected to undertake and conclude its work within three months, will be chaired by former Safety and Security minister, Dr Sydney Mufamadi.
Ramaphosa has further appointed former Minister of Defence, Charles Nqakula, as his National Security Adviser.
In a statement, Ramaphosa has said that the panel must seek to identify all material factors that allowed for some of the current challenges within the agency so that appropriate measures are instituted to prevent a recurrence.
The President further adds that the review panel will assist in ensuring a responsible and accountable national intelligence capability for South Africa.
