ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile has stated that the Democratic Alliance (DA) within the Government of National Unity (GNU) has maintained good conduct and has not brought any corruption allegations against him.

Mashatile emphasised that the GNU is concentrating on national issues rather than personal ones.

“We are collaborating well with all GNU members, with no conflicts,” he said, during an interview marking the ANC’s first 100 days in the GNU.

Earlier this year, DA leader John Steenhuisen accused Mashatile of benefiting from nepotism and family ties, sparking a corruption investigation.

The controversy involves the purchase of a R28.9 million mansion in Constantia by Mashatile’s son-in-law, Nonkwelo, whose company reportedly owes the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements R7 million from a failed housing project in Alexandria.

The DA also lodged a formal complaint with Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests, accusing Mashatile of violating the Members’ Code of Conduct by failing to declare his interests and allegedly submitting false or misleading information.

Responding to these allegations, Mashatile said, “The DA in government has not brought up any issues concerning me. Whether they will do so in the future, I don’t know, but it is not a current concern. Our focus is on governance.”

He emphasised that the GNU’s priority is ensuring the country works for the benefit of its people and affirmed that the coalition government is set to last for five years.
