JOHANNESBURG – Limpopo Agriculture MEC Joy Matshoge has died in a car accident.
The accident took place on the N1 outside Mokopane in Limpopo on Saturday night.
She was alone in the car when she died.
The 56-year-old was also the chairperson of the ANC Women’s League in Limpopo
She was the speaker of the provincial legislature before becoming an MEC in 2013.
The Limpopo government sent its condolences to Matshoge’s family and the governing party.
“At the moment the investigations into the accident are continuing,” said Limpopo government spokesperson Phuti Seloba.
“It is a great loss to the province, the family and we are appealing to the people of South Africa to support the bereaved family during this trying time.”
Seloba says that Matshoge will be remembered for her contribution in helping farmers preserve their livestock during the recent drought situation and shaping women development in the province in her role in the ANC Women’s League.
