JOHANNESBURG – The government has dismissed the EFF’s vote-rigging claims against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
During its manifesto launch on Saturday the party accused the IEC of stealing its votes in the 2014 national elections.
But the government slammed the claims as “wrong, misleading, and malicious”.
In a statement the Ministry of Co-operative Governance issued a stern warning to the EFF, saying its “malicious attack” on the commission is also a brutal attack on the constitution.
“As government we would like to issue a stern warning to the EFF and anyone who underestimates the importance of the IEC and its immaculate track record of being objective and truthful in delivering successful elections in a fair and unbiased manner. This malicious attack on the IEC, is surely also a brutal attack on our constitution,” the ministry said in the statement, adding it’s confident that the upcoming local government elections will be free and fair.
