AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has announced significant structural changes within the Office of the King, including the immediate closure of the private office of His Majesty and the dissolution of the office of the royal chancellor.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation and Monarch, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, following what was described as a review of the operational needs of the royal office.
As part of the restructuring process, Chief Director in the Office of His Majesty the King, Nododile Ndamase, has been relieved of her duties with immediate effect.
The King has also dissolved the office of the Royal Chancellor. Malusi Zondi was thanked for his service during his tenure in the position.
Under the new arrangements, all official correspondence relating to the monarch’s office will now be directed through the office of the Prime Minister. Further announcements regarding the restructuring are expected in due course.
The developments come shortly after King Misuzulu again called for the dissolution of the Ingonyama Trust Board following the resignation of board member Nomusa Zulu on Wednesday.
The nine member board has now been reduced to three active members: Deputy Chairperson Advocate Linda Zama, Sibonelo Zulu and Phallang Molefe.
Although King Misuzulu serves as chairperson and sole trustee of the board, he is regarded as inactive as he does not attend meetings due to his refusal to recognise the current board.
In her resignation letter addressed to Land Reform Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso and the King, Nomusa Zulu cited concerns over alleged governance failures and irregularities within the board structure.
She said the issues had made it impossible for her to continue associating herself with the board and confirmed that her resignation takes immediate effect.
