Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene has been cleared of wrongdoing following an independent investigation into his alleged links to a controversial businessman.
The investigation was launched after police found Kunene at the Sandton home of Katiso “KT” Molefe in July, during a raid to arrest Molefe. The businessman has been accused of orchestrating the 2022 killing of musician Oupa Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, along with two of his bodyguards.
Kunene maintained that he had been at the property in his capacity as publisher of the online platform Africa News Global, accompanying a young journalist on assignment.
The allegations prompted the PA to suspend him, and he later resigned from his role as Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport.
On Monday, PA leader Gayton McKenzie announced that a law firm’s investigation confirmed Kunene’s version of events and cleared him of any wrongdoing. He also praised Kunene for stepping aside during the investigation without causing divisions within the party.
