The South African Weather Service has warned that heavy downpours could affect most regions, with low lying areas, informal settlements and flood prone roads facing the greatest risk.

Disaster Management teams have been placed on standby and are closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure a rapid response to any emergencies.

Residents have been urged to exercise caution, particularly by avoiding swollen rivers, streams and drainage channels.

Motorists are also advised to remain vigilant on the roads and avoid driving through flooded areas, including known risk zones such as the Nelson Mandela Bridge.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that the city has activated its emergency response protocols.

Monitoring teams have been deployed across all seven regions, while fire stations remain fully operational and ready to respond to water related incidents.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of public cooperation to minimise risks and ensure safety as the adverse weather conditions unfold.
