JOHANNESBURG – The Hawks say the Senzo Meyiwa murder case is at a sensitive stage and are refusing to comment on reports on the real circumstances of his death.

The Sunday Independent claims the Hawks have established the Bafana Bafana captain was shot dead by someone he knew, and it was not a robbery that took place.

Meyiwa died in October 2014 when the goalkeeper was visiting his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo at her mother’s house in Vosloorus on the East Rand.

The Sunday Independent has reported that Hawks officials are planning to arrest a suspect in the murder case within the next few days, and that the person is lucky not to have spent the long weekend in custody.

The Hawks are refusing to place any official statement on the record regarding the murder or to comment on the newspaper’s claims.

Soon after the crime police arrested an incorrect suspect, a man named Zamokuhle Mbatha.

Meanwhile, the Meyiwa family has turned to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to probe the manner in which the police conducted the murder investigation.

The Hawks have now taken over and have been to the house to re-enact the 2014 shooting.
