Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder and long-rumored Kaizer Chiefs target, Bongani Zungu, has officially been announced as AmaZulu FC’s latest signing.
The 32-year-old midfielder became a free agent after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns ended on June 30, 2024.
Zungu expressed his excitement about joining the KwaZulu-Natal-based Betway Premiership side, emphasising his commitment to contributing to the club’s success and outlining his goals for the team.
Zungu’s transfer to AmaZulu follows an unsuccessful negotiation with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, where he was set to reunite with his former mentor, Rulani Mokwena.
Despite the collapse of that deal, Zungu has now found a fresh start with Usuthu, signing a permanent contract.
“Everywhere l’ve played, l’ve managed to win trophies, and I want to bring that same winning mentality here. I know what it takes to win, and that’s my aim.”
He also expressed his eagerness to work under head coach Arthur Zwane and assistant coach Vusi Vilakazi.
“I’ve watched AmaZulu’s games, and the team plays the modern game. My understanding of the game will help the team, but I know I have to work hard to earn my place.”
In addition to Zungu, AmaZulu has strengthened their squad with the signing of former Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa.
Both players are expected to bring valuable experience to the club as they aim to improve their standing in the league and compete for silverware.
