Eskom has announced a scheduled power outage in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday, 11 October, to conduct essential maintenance. The outage will last for nine hours, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, affecting customers in the Benmore and Sandown areas.
The power utility explained that the disruption is necessary for maintenance work on its distribution network.
However, Eskom noted that unforeseen circumstances could potentially delay or cancel the planned maintenance.
As a precaution, Eskom advised customers to treat all electrical appliances as live during the outage for safety reasons.
The power supplier also issued an apology for any inconvenience caused, reiterating that the maintenance might be postponed if circumstances beyond their control arise.
In a broader update, Eskom mentioned that South Africans could enjoy a summer without load shedding, provided that unplanned breakdowns at power stations remain under 13,000 MW.
The utility’s Generation Operational Recovery Plan has successfully suspended load shedding, ensuring 191 days of uninterrupted power supply since 26 March.
