Eskom has not yet confirmed whether loadshedding will take place over the upcoming long weekend.
This comes after the power utility implemented Stage 2 loadshedding on Wednesday night, which was later suspended on Thursday morning.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has criticised the sudden return of power cuts, warning that it poses a serious threat to the economy and could cause widespread disruption for families across the country.
DA MP Kevin Mileham said the unannounced loadshedding highlights the urgent need for a more competitive energy sector.
The party is calling for the immediate unbundling of Eskom to end its monopoly and address the ongoing electricity supply challenges.
According to the DA, new power generation capacity must be prioritised to prevent further strain on the national grid and avoid repeating these disruptions in the future.
