Motorists travelling along the M3 North are experiencing delays following protest action at the entrance of the University of Cape Town in Rondebosch.
Reports circulating on community newsgroups indicate that rocks were placed on the roadway, disrupting traffic flow along the busy route during peak hours.
Traffic officers responded to the scene and temporarily closed the entrances to UCT’s upper campus as a precautionary measure. The north and south entrances have since been reopened, with officers remaining on site to assist vehicles merging back onto the M3 and to help ease congestion in the area.
The protest is believed to be linked to fee blocks preventing some students from registering due to outstanding debt.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and consider using alternative routes where possible.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
