PRETORIA – After discussions between ActionSA President and Bongani Baloyi, both parties have come to a mutual agreement to part ways.
It is apparent that there are significant disagreements between Baloyi and ActionSA’s national leadership, which are mainly associated with the management of the province. Nevertheless, a myriad of press reports over the weekend has been found to contain numerous inaccuracies.
At the previous meeting on 6 March 2023, Mashaba made the offer to Baloyi for him to take up the mantle of National Spokesperson, a senior national position within ActionSA which is automatically represented on the Senate (ActionSA’s highest decision-making body). Today Baloyi declined this offer.
The President of the Party has the authority to choose the Provincial Chairpersons until an elective conference is held, as indicated by ActionSA’s interim constitution, says Michael Beaumont.
Speaking to Daily Maverick, Baloyi explained that there are many gaps the party needs to fill if it wants to be a formidable political player.
“I think they need to work on their internal democracy and find the right way of dealing with issues and evolve from a one-man party into an institution,” he said.
ActionSA’s national leadership thanks Baloyi for his service to ActionSA and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
Social Media users remember the comment of DA leaders in 2022 when Baloyi joined ActionSA.
“I have never had one unpleasant interaction with Bongani. Quite the contrary. My prediction? I think he will regret his move,” Zille said in response to the story.
