Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille’s political future is expected to be finally determined when the Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Executive committee meets this weekend.
De Lille met the deadline set by the DA’s Federal Executive Council earlier this week, to submit reasons why she should remain in office.
The official opposition Federal Executive is meeting in Johannesburg to consider her submissions.
Last week, the DA’s caucus in the city of Cape Town council passed a motion of no confidence in her.
In the past eight months the fiery political leader has remained steadfast in opposing any attempts by the DA top brass to unseat her from her mayoral position.
It’s now a D-DAY for De Lille, as the party’s Federal Executive mulls her fate in what many political observers argue could bring an end to her political career within the DA.
However, De Lille will not go down without a fight. She has already launched another court application to try and force the DA to provide information needed to challenge the findings of the recent Steenhuisen Report.
The report found De Lille guilty of several allegations made against her, including shutting down the Special Investigation Unit, recent security upgrades at her residence, and trying to influence the re-appointment of former city manager Achmat Ebrahim.
The matter has since been postponed as the information was still outstanding.
In her submission to the Federal Executive, De Lille maintained her innocence, dismissing the charges brought against her as a political witch hunt.
