Cape Town – A Cape Town neighbourhood is shocked at the discovery of the body of a young woman whose genitals had been mutilated.

At 5.30am on Sunday, residents rushed out to the horrific scene on a field in Nooitgedacht where the body of Lekita Moore, 19, was found. She had been stabbed several times in the throat and stomach. One of her nipples and a part of her crotch area had been cut away.According to witnesses on the scene it had looked like the young woman’s legs were broken as a result of rape.

The motive for the attack is unclear and no arrests have been made yet.The horrific scene shocked Moore’s dad Charl Moore, who was called to identify his daughter.

Moore said he was shocked when a friend called him at work to say that his child was lying dead on the field.

He described Lekita, the youngest of three daughters, as the apple of his eye, a gentle young woman who loved children.

Moore said Lekita had been en route to Valhalla Park Civic Centre for a karaoke evening that took place once a month.

Shocked Nooitgedacht residents couldn’t believe that such a gruesome crime had taken place on their doorstep.

Many blamed a gaping hole in the fence that borders the field as an easy entrance and exit point for criminals.

Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana has asked residents to help police find Moore’s killers.

She said: “We can confirm that a body of a 19-year-old female was found Sunday morning… with multiple stab wounds. No one has been arrested at this stage.”

“The Bishop Lavis SAPS are appealing to the community, for anyone with information that can assist with the investigation to contact them on 021-935 9803,” she added.
