SAPS brigadier recognised for integrity under pressure
PRETORIA — Brigadier Dineo Mokwele has been named for the Integrity Under Fire Special Award at the 2026 Whistleblower Awards, recognising her conduct through institutional adversity. National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola congratulated the 31-year-old ahead of the ceremony scheduled for 26 October.
Recognition after a contested appointment
Mokwele’s recognition follows her arrest alongside senior police officers over alleged irregularities in her appointment. As reported, the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew the fraud and corruption charges unconditionally in August. The allegations were not tested at trial.
Masemola praised her professionalism and resilience, saying her conduct demonstrated the importance of integrity and accountability in public service. The SAPS announcement did not identify a particular disclosure underpinning the award, instead emphasising how she had responded to adversity.
Engineering expertise in policing
Appointed brigadier in 2024, Mokwele previously headed Technical Support Services in Crime Intelligence. She now serves as acting head of Crime Systems Infrastructure Management, overseeing technology projects supporting police systems.
Her qualifications include an MBA, a Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Engineering and a National Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering. Her professional experience includes work at BMW South Africa.
