Operations at the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria were temporarily suspended on Monday after a power outage affected the court and surrounding areas.
In a statement, the Office of the Chief Justice confirmed that court activities had been halted due to the electricity disruption. Members of the public, legal practitioners and other court users were advised that matters scheduled for the day would be affected, with alternative arrangements to be communicated to the parties involved.
The judiciary said it had engaged with the City of Tshwane and that efforts to restore power were underway.
In an update shared on X, the City of Tshwane confirmed it was aware of a medium voltage power outage affecting several infrastructure points, including the GPW Substation, Orbital Industrial Substation, MRMU Proes and Shurbart, as well as the MS Proes and Bosman components.
The municipality said a switching team had been dispatched to investigate the cause of the outage. An estimated time for power restoration had not yet been confirmed.
The disruption comes as the city continues to deal with several electricity faults reported over the weekend, which delayed restoration efforts due to adverse weather conditions.
Among the incidents reported was a trip on the Waltloo Substation 132kV line, which affected electricity supply in Mamelodi 1, Mamelodi 3 and the Heatherley Substation area.
Another issue was reported at the Heatherley Substation, where Transformer R went offline after tripping. This affected areas including Nellmapius Extension 3, Extension 6, Extension 7, Extension 8, Extension 22 and Savannah Hills Estate.
In a separate incident, the Waltloo Substation 132kV Line 2 also tripped, affecting Mamelodi 1, Transformer 1 West, Mamelodi 3, Mahube Valley and nearby areas.
The Magalieskruin Substation was also reported to be offline, leaving parts of Montana and Magalieskruin without electricity.
City of Tshwane officials previously confirmed that technical teams had been dispatched to investigate the faults and work on restoring power to affected communities.
