Eskom has announced a scheduled electricity supply interruption that will impact customers in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and the Sunday’s River Valley Local Municipality next month.
The planned maintenance is set to take place on 12 March, with 19 March identified as an alternative date should changes be required. The outage is expected to run from 05:00 to 19:00, resulting in a 14-hour power interruption across several towns and surrounding areas.
Areas Expected To Be Affected
According to Eskom’s notice, multiple communities within the two municipalities will experience the temporary shutdown. Affected areas include Kirkwood town, Kirkwood Prison, Glenconner, Bluecliff, Steytlerville, Vuyolwethu, Kleinpoort, Moses Mabhida, Wesbank, Wolfontein, Addo Park, Valencia, Paterson, Langbos, Jansenville, Besheba, Enon and Dunbrody.
Residents and businesses in these areas are advised to prepare for a full-day electricity interruption. Eskom has cautioned customers to treat all electrical installations and appliances as live during the outage period, as supply may be restored without prior notice.
Maintenance Aimed At Strengthening The Network
The power utility said the interruption forms part of essential infrastructure maintenance aimed at improving the stability and long-term performance of the regional electricity network. Planned outages are regularly implemented to allow for repairs, equipment upgrades and preventative work designed to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns that could lead to prolonged disruptions.
Eskom Apologises For Inconvenience
Eskom acknowledged that the outage may disrupt households, schools, healthcare facilities and local businesses, and has apologised for the inconvenience.
Customers are encouraged to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled maintenance. This includes charging essential devices, arranging alternative power sources where possible and planning activities around the downtime.
