Residents in Gauteng can expect a warm start to the week, with Johannesburg reaching a high of around 27°C and Pretoria also set for mild, partly cloudy conditions. But forecasters warn that the afternoon and evening could bring a sharp change in weather.
According to the South African Weather Service, much of the interior has a 30% to 60% chance of thunderstorms later today.
Severe storm warnings have been issued for Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and parts of the Free State, with risks including hail, damaging winds, and intense lightning.
Communities in northern Gauteng and southeastern Limpopo are urged to remain alert as storm activity could strengthen into the night.
Meanwhile, Mpumalanga will also see widespread showers, with towns such as Witbank and Middelburg expected to reach highs near 30°C.
Despite the unsettled conditions, forecasters say most of Gauteng will still feel warm and humid during the day before storms roll in.
