A weather alert has been issued for the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, where heavy rainfall is expected on Saturday, 20 July. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has cautioned that ongoing rain may lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas.
Rainfall between 30 millimetres and 50 millimetres is forecast for the coastal belt and surrounding regions, with southern KwaZulu-Natal likely to be more affected than inland areas. Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, and prolonged rain may increase the risk of flooding.
The weather service has warned of several potential impacts, including waterlogged roads and bridges, poor visibility on highways, and difficult driving conditions, especially on unpaved surfaces. Informal settlements and homes made of mud could also suffer structural damage.
Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution, avoid water-covered roads, and stay alert to any instructions from emergency services.
For the rest of the weekend, KwaZulu-Natal can expect partly cloudy conditions in the east, with isolated to scattered showers continuing in some areas. The interior will experience cool to cold temperatures. Coastal areas along the west and south are likely to face rough sea conditions with potentially damaging waves.
Residents, particularly those in flood-prone communities, are urged to follow updates and safety alerts from SAWS and local disaster management authorities.
