GAC Motor, a subsidiary of GAC Group, one of China’s leading vehicle manufacturers has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with international automotive powerhouse Salvador Caetano Auto, marking the brand’s official entry into the South African market.
Founded in 1997, GAC Motor employs over 113,000 people globally and currently holds the No. 165 spot on the Fortune Global 500 list. The company is renowned for its range of sedans, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, with further details on the South African lineup to be announced soon.
The partnership will see Salvador Caetano Auto take responsibility for the distribution of GAC vehicles, spare parts, and after-sales service across South Africa.
Salvador Caetano Group, established in 1946, is a globally recognized player in the automotive sector, with a presence in over 41 countries across Europe, South America, and Africa. With more than 7,000 employees and over 100 companies under its umbrella, the Group’s business spans industrial production (automobiles, buses, aeronautics), automotive import and distribution, mobility solutions, industrial equipment, and service operations.
“This agreement marks a significant milestone for Salvador Caetano Auto as we enter the South African market, with the potential to expand this partnership into other territories in the future,” said Sérgio Ribeiro, Executive Board Member of Salvador Caetano Auto and CEO of Global Automotive Distribution.
He added: “This strategic alliance represents a major investment that will enable us to rapidly position GAC Motor as a competitive and influential automotive brand in South Africa.”

“Together, we will leverage our combined strengths to deliver high-quality vehicles to South African customers while building a robust dealership network focused on customer satisfaction,” he said.
With the foundation now laid, both companies are gearing up to introduce a compelling vehicle lineup tailored to the South African market.
