JOHANNESBURG – President Jacob Zuma has 45 days to pay the money he owes for upgrades to his Nkandla homestead.
Zuma earns R2.8-million a year, meaning that his R7.8-million Nkandla bill is more than double his annual salary.
But the Presidency says questions about how he will make the payment, is inappropriate at this stage.
The president’s office also cautioned against social media scams, claiming to raise funds to help foot the bill.
It says requests for donations and online posts to this effect are fake.
Meanwhile, the ANC says Zuma will pay back the money.
“The President has made an undertaking in court papers that he will pay whatever amount has been determined,” said ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa.
“That amount has been determined now, which is what the President has been waiting for. So there shouldn’t be an issue outside of that.
“I think the President, understanding his commitment in court, will make that payment.”
