The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party leader, Jacob Zuma has fired the party’s Mpumalanga leader, Mary Phadi, from her position.
Phadi, a prominent businesswoman and president of the Truckers Association of South Africa, was asked to step down voluntarily from the Mpumalanga legislature.
When she refused, Zuma and the party’s national leadership revoked her membership with immediate effect, effectively cutting all ties with her.
The party stated that the decision followed extensive discussions and serious allegations against Phadi, including misappropriation of funds, damaging the organisation’s reputation, and failing to comply with leadership directives.
“Due to the gravity of the allegations coupled with Phadi’s inadequate responses, the leadership has made an irrevocable final decision to terminate her membership,” the party said.
In August, Sunday World reported that Phadi had allegedly hired hitmen to target General Tough Mdluli, her provincial rival within the organisation.
Mdluli claimed to have received multiple death threats and voice recordings revealing a plot against him, leading him to file a police report.
He also accused Phadi of tampering with the MK Party’s provincial candidate list by placing herself in the top position.
