The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has said that it will look into claims made by social media user, Tom London.
London made multiple accusations against Helen Joseph Hospital, claiming that the hospital treats its patients like unwanted visitors.
In a video shared on social media, the man, who is also a patient at the hospital, said he has never witnessed a doctor approach a patient and provide a genuine greeting.
“I have not seen in my ward any one doctor who has come up to a patient and greeted them. They treat them with absolute disrespect.”
Tom London also claimed that he hasn’t seen his new doctor in more than 48 hours after he was assigned to him.
“Every doctor here assumes you are homeless person who has come from the street. The doctors are behaving like patients here are their little experiments,” he added.
London used his phone to take a tour of the building, pointing out issues with the infrastructure such as faulty plug points, peeling ceiling boards and broken taps.
The provincial health department responded to some of these allegations that went viral on social media on Saturday by saying that an investigation is being conducted to get the truth and address the concerns brought up by the complainant.
The department has also revealed that Kopanong Hospital renovations, Helen Joseph and other facilities will be given attention when ICU wards at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, George Mukhari Academic Hospital, and Jubilee District Hospital are finished.
“The department urges patients to report their complaints to the quality assurance offices located at each facility when they are not happy with the service they are receiving.”
