The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development has dismissed 27 civil servants for various forms of misconduct.
This action is part of a broader initiative to address 81 grievance matters within the department, which included a total of 55 dismissals, 25 suspensions and one warning.
According to Kgalalelo Masibi, the Senior Director of Communications Management, the dismissals involve serious cases of misconduct such as fraud, theft, sexual harassment and other offences.
“The misconduct in question ranged from fraud, theft, sexual harassment and denigration of the ministry to absenteeism, misuse of official vehicles and insubordination,“ Masibi said.
To date, the authority has successfully concluded 31 of these complaints, resulting in 27 dismissals being upheld, while sanctions were reduced in four cases.
This outcome underscores the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that its officers adhere to the highest standards of conduct.
Masibi emphasised that the department is committed to expeditiously processing all pending appeals.
“The Ministry remains committed to completing all appeals lodged with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development and will continue to strengthen its internal controls to address any conduct that undermines its ability to deliver justice services effectively and efficiently,” Masibi reiterated.
Masibi expressed confidence that these dismissals and the conclusion of the associated disciplinary proceedings will serve as a strong deterrent against future misconduct.
“The consequence management measures put in place underscore the ministry’s commitment to clean administration.”
All outstanding appeal matters are being expeditiously processed and are expected to be concluded in due course, Masibi said.
