After a near-miss with Williams driver Logan Sargeant during the second free practice session in Saudi Arabia, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was officially cleared by the FIA stewards.
Following the eagerly awaited meeting, Hamilton was given a warning and the team was fined 15,000 euros. This relieves the Mercedes star of any more concerns as he continues his race weekend.
The incident took place on the fast paced Jeddah Corniche Circuit, where Hamilton and Sargeant were seen getting too close to each other on the track. This prompted an instant formal review by the authority that oversees the sport.
After Sargeant had to make a deceptive move to avoid colliding with Hamilton’s slower-moving Mercedes, he expressed his immediate frustration over the team radio, and Hamilton was formally summoned for a discussion with the stewards about the situation.
“I didn’t realise someone was on a lap. I was trying to get out of the way for Sainz and all of a sudden there was a Williams there,” explained Hamilton at the time.
