JOHANNESBURG – Motorists who use the M1 highway are urged to find alternative routes from Monday.
This as the revamp of the freeway intensifies.
The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) says traffic from Alexandra and Midrand going into Sandton will be affected.
The M1’s southbound carriageway will be reduced to two lanes from the Killarney area to the St Andrews Road off-ramp.
The Oxford road southern on-ramp will be closed at Ettrick Road.
Some lanes of the highway will be closed on weekdays between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
This will continue until 6 July.

The JRA has posted information on its website with suggested alternate routes and will regularly post updates.
The improvements to the freeway began in January and are expected to be completed in May next year.
They involve upgrades of bridges, intended to eliminate the dangers of flash floods.
