LADYSMITH – Taxi services in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, will resume on Tuesday morning.
On Monday, provincial transport MEC Mxolisi Kaunda lifted the suspension of local operations.
Five buses were torched on Sunday night in an attempt to force the government to re-open taxi routes.
But authorities are denying reports that the relaxing of the ban on taxi operations was prompted by Sunday’s incident.
Taxi operations were suspended in December following ongoing violence between two taxi associations.
The feud has claimed 61 lives since 2014.
“We’re not opening the long distances, we’re only opening the local operations,” said KZN Transport MEC Mxolisi Kaunda.
“We’ve reviewed this and said we’re maintaining the decision but there is relaxation in terms of opening the local operations in the area.”
