JOHANNESBURG – Police have arrested 11 people in connection with the killing of Warrant Officer Boshego Joel Seloga in Limpopo over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto on Monday said the 11 people, ten men and a woman, were arrested in the Jane Furse area where the crime happened.
Seloga was shot and killed at a funeral on Saturday when he and colleagues, and a team of officers from the North West were about to arrest a suspect who was attending the funeral of a villager in Madibong.
The villager had been killed a week before.
“While apprehending him, the suspect screamed for help. The community rushed to him and mistook the police members for criminals. They suspected the officers might have been involved in the killing of the person being buried,” Otto said then.
“The officers, who were wearing plain clothes, retreated, but the warrant officer was chased and cornered and his service pistol taken.The service pistol was forcefully removed and he was shot in the head and died on the scene.”
Seloga was stationed at Hlogotlou SAPS.
“The member’s service pistol with 12 bullets were recovered during the arrests. The firearm was dug out of the ground where it had been hidden,” Otto said.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 48, were expected to appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon to face murder charges.
