JOHANNESBURG – Parliament’s Public Service and Administration Committee called on Minister Faith Muthambi to appear before it, to explain allegations that she used R300,000 of taxpayers’ money to fly her family and friends to Cape Town.
Muthambi reportedly flew 30 people to the Mother City on a luxury jet for her budget speech in Parliament in May.
The minister has come under increasing scrutiny after the #GuptaLeaks emails showed she had shared highly confidential information about cabinet meetings with the Gupta family.
Political analyst Karima Brown highlighted that Muthambi has been embroiled in various scandals, including during her tenure as Communications Minister.
“This is a minister that has been able to get away with many things. Who can forget her role in the mess at the SABC, the protection of someone like Hlaudi Motsoeneng? What is interesting is that Outa (Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse) has in fact laid treason charges against her and (Mineral Resources) Minister Zwane.”
