The Nelson Mandela Foundation says that controversial graphic artist, Ayanda Mabulu’s latest artwork is “distasteful”.
The foundation released a short statement on their website after Mabulu revealed the painting on social media on Thursday.
“In reaction to the painting currently in the public domain by Mr Ayanda Mabulu, the Nelson Mandela Foundation notes the public outrage it has caused and appreciates that the public is offended by it.”
The foundation went on to say that they respect Mabulu’s right to freedom of expression, but they find his latest work “distasteful”.
“The Foundation would like to express that it respects Mr Mabulu’s right to freedom of expression. We however find this painting distasteful.”
Mabulu is known for his paintings which shows Zuma in a sexual manner.
Speaking on his latest work, Mabulu said that the the message behind the painting is “simple and clear”.
“The message in the painting is simple and clear: the country and everything we fought for before ’94 and post ’94, is constantly and continuously being raped by this rapist president of ours,”
