One of the accused in the Vlakfontein murders is set to appear in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court, south of Johannesburg.
The 61 year-old Mozambican national, Fifita Khupe will apply for bail.
His co-accused 27 year-old Ernest Mabaso, from Zimbabwe, abandoned his bail application on Monday last week.
The bodies of seven family members – three women and four children – were discovered and buried under a heap of sand in Vlakfontein two weeks ago.
Mabaso faces additional charges of rape while Khupe is believed to have been in a longstanding relationship with one of the deceased women.
Some angry Vlakfontein residents want Khupe to be denied bail, while others want him released for the community to deal with him.
“We want them out not for imprisonment because they will eat there, bath and get everything. Our tax money will be paying for their food inside. We want them outside, we want to burn them alive.”
