Heerenveen was sent home with no points after a goal from Kristian Hlynsson, leaving the former Dutch international striker—who played for Manchester United and Arsenal—feeling that they had lost out on a chance.
“After the game, I think there could have been more,” Van Persie said to television reporters.
We had a couple of opening-half opportunities. It was our hope that one of them would have entered and added a little more credibility. You could see our intentions in the second half, but we didn’t really create any opportunities.
He promised to focus on that for the upcoming game.
“We are excited to play FC Utrecht the following week.
“I can’t guarantee that we will win every game with the style we’re playing, but this is how I think you should play football in terms of energy and occasionally quality. We’ll demonstrate that each week,” he continued.
After retiring from play in 2020 and joining Heerenveen, Van Persie, 41, was added to Feyenoord’s coaching staff. Van Persie scored 50 goals in 102 international matches for the Netherlands.
On Saturday, they will take on Utrecht in their first home game of the year.
