The development sparked excitement among Nigerians on Monday.
“I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so,” the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, told State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Idris explained, “You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates on the issue of visas for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates
An deal has been reached today, July 15, making it possible for holders of Nigerian passports to get visas for travel to the United Arab Emirates.
“We will provide you with details about that later today when we release a statement.”
“That’s a great development, I have no doubt that PBAT will definitely take us to where we are expecting to be or precisely close the place,” Reign Aiyowieren commented in response to the development on social media.
Also, it’s fantastic news, according to Omo Odekunle @MofoluwasoOjo.
“Thanks, Tinubu,” remarked Angus Okorie. I have no doubt that you can guide those who will take advantage of your reputation to deceive Nija.
“When jagaban dey work, some are sleeping, dey will soon ask how it make it happen, dey never saw him coming, God bless Nigeria and Mr. President,” posted Akr Ife Tuase in response to a comment.
“The best president Nigeria has ever had, congratulations, baba. Good and responsible Nigerians are solidly behind you,” wrote James JP Ben.
“May God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” wrote Olumide Famakinwa.
Owing to a number of diplomatic issues, the UAE banned Nigerians from entering the country approximately two years ago.
In addition, Emirates Airline of Dubai suspended service to Nigeria due to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s inability to transfer an estimated $85 million in earnings to the UAE.
Nigerians were given the assurance by the Federal authorities in June that the visa block will be removed shortly after multiple talks with the UAE authorities. The Nigerian government declared that 98% of the $850 million had been paid that same month.
The government declared on Monday that the problems had been fixed.
It said as follows: “After fruitful discussions and protracted, mutually beneficial negotiations between the governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, an agreement was achieved for Nigerian passport holders to resume travel to the UAE.
Updated regulations and requirements are included in this agreement to make it easier to get a UAE visa. Visa applications will once again be accepted starting on July 15, 2024.
