Two West Coast detectives secure heavy sentences for rape and murder cases from Vredenburg Regional Court

SAPS management in the Province commended two West Coast detectives for sentences meted out at the Vredenburg Regional Court this week.  Following the rape of a five year old girl in Diazville, Saldanha in June 2015, Warrant Officer Wiggels from the FCS in Vredenburg conducted an extensive investigation which resulted in the conviction and sentencing of 46 year old Rastaman John Christiaans to 20 years in prison. In a separate case, Sergeant Hanekom’s investigation into the murder of 17 year old Chester Miller paid off with the sentencing of 19 year old Keano Lombard to 15 years imprisonment. The victim was stabbed to death in March 2015. It is envisaged that the sentences will serve as a deterrent to would be offenders that crime does not pay.
