DURBAN – The owner of the killer Fields Hill truck is expected to appear in the Verulam magistrate’s court on Friday.
Sagekal Logistics owner Gregory Govender stands accused of operating an unroadworthy truck and trailer.
Twenty-four people died in the September 2013 accident and the truck driver Sanele May was convicted of culpable homicide.
May was driving a truck which ploughed into a fully-laden taxi.
He was arrested and initially charged with murder which was later reduced to culpable homicide.
May is currently serving his eight year, ten-month sentence.
His supporters frequently questioned why the owner of the truck was not charged at the time.
Reports commissioned after the accident showed that the truck wasn’t roadworthy.
But almost three years after the accident, Govender is now facing the law.
He’s accused of operating vehicles that are not roadworthy and failing to exercise due care to ensure the safety of the public.
