JOHANNESBURG – TaxiChoice says a new electronic taxi system introduced by MEC Ismael Vadi will be beneficial for both commuters and drivers.
The system is replacing cash payments used in taxis with the use of cards, smart phones or coupons.
The system will also be tracking the taxi’s whereabouts and the speed at which it is driving.
The rollout of the system is expected to start in February where the software will be connected inside the first 250 taxis.
TaxiChoice chief operations officer Thulani Qwabe said, “The industry knows that we have to improve on a number of things and this solution helps us to improve the lives of taxi drivers, commuters and taxi owners.”
