Cyril Ramaphosa says the special task team established to implement the findings of the Madlanga Commission interim report has already led to the suspension of several implicated law enforcement officials.
The President, however, noted that the interim report, which he received in December, cannot yet be released to the public in full. He explained that publishing the report at this stage could compromise the process and would be unfair to witnesses who may still be required to provide further evidence before the Commission.
Despite the report remaining confidential, Ramaphosa indicated that accountability measures are already underway.
Speaking during a question and answer session with Members of Parliament in the National Assembly of South Africa, the President said the task team has begun acting on the Commission’s preliminary findings.
Investigations are being initiated against individuals identified in the report, while matters requiring disciplinary action are currently being handled by the relevant departments. Some cases have already resulted in suspensions, while others have moved into formal disciplinary processes.
Ramaphosa added that the steps being taken demonstrate that the Commission’s work is already having consequences within the law enforcement sector.
