Supersport United coach Eric Tinkler has confirmed that the club will have to find a replacement for striker Jeremy Brockie almost immediately – if he leaves in this current January transfer window.

The forward, who still has at least two years on his contract with Matsatsantsa and is believed to have a buy-out clause of R15-million, has been the subject of interest from Absa Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

“We’ve not received any offers, except to say we know that Sundowns have been interested since about six months ago. But there is no new offer at the moment,” said Tinkler.

“In the event that he leaves, we will have to go into the market to replace him. We have a squad of 28 players and only if one of them leaves will we look for replacements. At the moment no one is leaving, which is why we have not been buys in the transfer window.”

Brockie submitted a transfer request in August to try force a move to Sundowns, but the club stood firm on the fact that he was still contracted to SuperSport and allowing him to break away from that deal would set a bad precedence.

He started for Matsatsantsa in the goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, proof that he is still very much in Tinkler’s plans.

SuperSport have been unusually quiet in the market this month despite losing Sifiso Myeni, who was called back by struggling champions Bidvest Wits from his loan spell, releasing Dove Wome and sending Fagrie Lakay on loan to Ajax Cape Town.
