Lithuanian citizens can now enter South Africa without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. The Department of Home Affairs officially implemented the new policy on 7 October 2025, marking another step in expanding South Africa’s network of visa-free nations.
Strengthening Ties with Europe
The inclusion of Lithuania follows similar decisions for Bulgaria and Estonia, highlighting South Africa’s ongoing efforts to deepen relations with European countries. The policy aims to enhance tourism, cultural exchange, and trade by making travel more accessible for international visitors.
Simplified Travel for Lithuanians
Under the new arrangement, Lithuanian passport holders will no longer be required to apply for visas through the South African Embassy in Stockholm or use the online e-visa system. The change is expected to encourage greater travel and business engagement between the two countries.
A Boost for Bilateral Relations
The Lithuanian Embassy has described the visa exemption as a milestone in diplomatic cooperation, emphasising that it reflects years of consistent effort to strengthen ties. Officials from both nations hope the move will open new avenues for collaboration in tourism, business, and cultural exchange.
Expanding the Visa-Free Strategy
The Department of Home Affairs has signalled that more countries could soon be added to the exemption list. This forms part of a broader strategy to attract visitors, promote economic growth, and build stronger international partnerships through more open travel policies.
