Sasol said the shutdown affected one of Natref’s downstream units, limiting Sasol Oil’s ability to meet its full supply commitments for certain fuel products, including jet fuel.

The company said customers at OR Tambo would continue to receive partial supplies while it implements measures to reduce the impact of the disruption.

Sasol added that Natref is working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns about fuel security and the reliability of South Africa’s refinery capacity.

Sasol has previously highlighted the importance of maintaining the country’s operating refineries to support energy security.

The latest disruption could add pressure to fuel supplies at one of South Africa’s busiest airports, where any shortages could have an impact on airline operations.

Sasol said it would continue monitoring the situation and implementing mitigation measures while efforts to restore the refinery unit continue.
